JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
PLANNER AND PUBLIC RELATIONS COORDINATOR*
(GRADE 20)

Salary: $33,522 - $56,807
The Arizona Commission for the Deaf and the Hard of Hearing (ACDHH) was established in 1978. Its goal is to improve quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing Arizona residents. ACDHH is seeking a planner and public relations coordinator to expand direct services by seeking funds for underserved population; inform the community of the agency's activities on issues related to hearing loss; assist with special projects assigned by executive director and/or deputy director such as public policy analysis; researching and defining critical issues; outreach activities; preparing short and long range, and/or contingency plans; directing grant activity; and developing community profiles and economic development plans. This position would also direct the publicity, educational and informational programs of the agency, including editing of materials for education and training use and for dissemination through mass media outlets such as the daily or weekly press; this is in accordance with the Agency's prescribed duty under A.R.S. §36-1944 (4).
Qualifications:
Must have three years experience in professional public information work, news or feature writing, broadcast news, public relations, advertising or related as well as professional planning experience appropriate to the area of assignment.
Prefer: Excellent communication skills including fluency in American Sign Language and knowledge of other communication options; must understand hard of hearing issues; must understand American Disabilities Act; excellent leadership and administrative skills; decision making, evaluation, planning and analysis skills; organizational and time management skills; computer and public speaking skills. Good knowledge of the principles and practices of journalism, public relations and mass communication as they apply to the public information functions. Ability to develop and provide agency with a public information program; ability in written and oral expression. Good knowledge of the principles and practices utilized in research and planning; considerable knowledge of local planning resources; good knowledge of government organizations and procedures. Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data; ability to develop effective plans; ability to maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course work.
