Deaf couple safe after Portland apartment fire

Firefighters put out an apartment fire in southeast Portland early Thursday, before anyone got hurt.

The fire started in a first-floor unit inside a building in the Sellwood neighborhood and quickly spread to the floor above.

Firefighters were especially concerned about a deaf couple who lived in the building.

But crews said everyone made it out safely.
