From: Pioneer Press - St. Paul,MN,USA - Mar 22, 2005
Students at Minnesota North Star Academy, a charter high school serving deaf students, have received a $2,430 grant to conduct research on how to make restaurants more accommodating for deaf customers. Three North Star students — Alex Jacobson, Aaron Klein and Jenny Williams — conducted the initial research and wrote the grant proposal that was chosen by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding. The students are conducting more than 100 surveys and interviewing deaf people about their restaurant experiences. They will also interview restaurant managers about their experiences dealing with deaf customers. After analyzing the data, the students will work with T.G.I. Friday's restaurants to train restaurant employees how to work with deaf customers.
