NTID APPOINTS DIRECTOR OF ACCESS SERVICES
ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 23—Stephen A. Nelson has been named Director of Access Services for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. He has been acting director of Access Services since October 2004 and has been manager of NTID's Liberal Arts Interpreting Team since 1988.
"Steve has been continually recognized for his openness, foresight, dedication to students and his ability to handle a variety of challenging assignments," said Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz, RIT vice president and CEO/dean of NTID.
Nelson, at NTID since 1980, has a 25-year history in interpreting. He has a Comprehensive Skills Certificate and an Oral Interpreting Certificate, both from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Nelson has a bachelor's degree in Education of the Deaf in Mathematics and Computer Science from the State University of New York, Empire College and a certificate in Interpreting from Oregon College of Education (now Western Oregon University).
NTID is the first and largest technological college in the world for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. One of eight colleges of RIT, NTID offers educational programs and access and support services to its 1,100 students from around the world who study, live, and socialize with 14,400 hearing students on RIT's Rochester, N.Y., campus.
