About the Presentation:

In this lively, thought-provoking presentation, Dragonsani "Drago" Renteria and his partner, Jennifer Mantle, will help inform, educate and enlighten us on issues that affect Transgender/Transsexual individuals. Utilizing powerful images and healthy doses of humor, Drago will share his personal experience making the physical and cultural transition from female to male. Jennifer will share her perspective as the partner of a transman, lead us through issues of transphobia and educate us on how to be trans allies. Medical terminology and culturally appropriate vocabulary in both ASL and English will also be shared. All welcome! Sponsored by BLeGIT.

About the Presenters:

Jennifer A. Mantle is an RID Certified (CI, CT) interpreter who has served on the board of Female-to-Male International and currently serves on the board of Northern California Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf and the Community United Against Violence Speaker's Bureau. She facilitates a support group for the partners of FTMs and has travelled widely with Drago presenting her perspective as the partner of a transman and educating audiences about the transgender community and transphobia. She lives in San Francisco, CA with her partner, Drago.

Dragonsani "Drago" Renteria is a Deaf, Chicano transman who has presented to diverse audiences on LGBT issues nationwide. He is founder and director of the national Deaf Queer Resource Center (www.deafqueer.org) and has served on numerous local and national boards including the boards of FTM International and the Youth Gender Project. He currently serves on the boards of the Rainbow Alliance of the Deaf and the California Center for Law and the Deaf, Inc. He also serves on the World Federation of the Deaf's Expert Network as a consultant on LGBT issues. A speaker in demand, Drago is adept at making his audiences feel at ease when discussing sensitive topics.

We are a proud group of people that recognize not only the need to support each other in the interpreting community but also in the LGBT community.
