New Visitors Center Opens at CSD Headquarters
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – 7 July 2005 – CSD, along with representatives from the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to unveil the opening of a visitors center at CSD headquarters in Sioux Falls, S.D.
The center's grand opening took place during CSD's second annual "Passion Day" employee appreciation event and also included a kick-off celebration of the organization's 30th anniversary. Employees at CSD locations throughout the country were also able to participate in the celebration through a live Internet webcast teleconference.
Since 1975, CSD has built a consortium of programs and services, creating an extensive impact on deaf and hard of hearing consumers across the country. As the public became more aware of CSD's mission and accomplishments, visitors to CSD's headquarters — from across the country and around the world — steadily increased.
The need to coordinate facility tours and provide a historical overview for guests became apparent. The new visitors center provides video and visual displays that highlight key services and products: interpreting, national programs, telecommunications relay service, CSDVRS, Camp Lakodia and community outreach.
Future developments will include an interactive sign-in kiosk and floor-to-ceiling murals portraying individuals who played key roles in the success and growth of CSD. The center is located in what is known as the Simpson building, a red granite brickstone on property that was previously part of the South Dakota School for the Deaf.
CSD will host its 30th anniversary banquet and celebration at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on October 28. Tickets will be available for sale in the near future at www.c-s-d.org.
