Staunton remains in the running to become the home to a consolidated Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind.

The Virginia Board of Education voted today to endorse a consolidation proposal from a development group that includes the possible renovation of the existing VSDB Staunton campus.

The board unanimously approved the proposal from Trammell Crow, one of the two entities that submitted proposals for the consolidation of the school.

The second group, Children First, had focused its proposal on renovations to the existing Staunton school.

Trammell Crow had offered a multi-option plan calling for the renovation of the current VSDB Staunton school, the construction of a new facility in Staunton or the construction of a new school in Charlottesville or Richmond.

The board of education added the option of the renovation of the existing Hampton VSDB campus or construction of a new facility in Hampton at the request of supporters of the Hampton school.
