Man killed by police identified

A burglary suspect who was shot and killed by police in Moreno Valley on Friday was identified Sunday as Lance Michael Solomon, 23, of San Diego, in a news release from the Riverside County coroner's office.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the incident, Deputy Craig Roberts said. The department has placed two officers involved on paid administrative leave and has not revealed their identities.

Moreno Valley police were conducting surveillance on a residence on Quapaw Trail when Solomon pulled his car into the driveway Friday.

During a foot chase that ensued, an officer saw the man holding a handgun and fired several shots at him after he did not comply with police commands, according to the sheriff's department.

The man attempted to hide by jumping into a trash can on Duckbill Road.

The man grabbed his waistband when officers opened the lid, and an officer fired several rounds, according to the Sheriff's Department.
