MoPix News from WGBH- September 9

SPECIAL NATIONAL AMUSEMENTS SHOWCASE CINEMAS UPDATE

Two weeks ago, we reported on the efforts National Amusements, a long-time supporter of accessible films and theaters, undertakes to get the word out about captioned and described films at their 30 MoPix-equipped locations around the country. This week, we have assembled the list of National Amusements locations as well as voice and recorded phone lines for each (see below). While patrons can still call the voice lines for information, National Amusements has also begun incorporating access information for films and showtimes in their their existing recorded movie information lines at each theater (both available via relay for patrons who are deaf or hard of hearing). This is a major step forward in "mainstreaming" information for all of their patrons. In addition, the chain lists either "RWC" (stands for Rear Window Captioning) or "RWC/DVS" (RWC plus DVS Theatrical) at the movie level for each theater, so that patrons can check online for film availability and showtimes at their local MoPix-equipped theater. And how easy is this? You can also purchase your tickets online. Finally, National Amusements provides- via their Web site- an invitation to sign up for weekly e-mail updates which include description of the latest film plots, film listings and showtimes... including indications which films are accessible and when they will play. Their Web site address is www.nationalamusements.com .

A round of cyber applause for National Amusements for their initial installation of access technologies and for including patrons with disabilities, their families and friends in their marketing and public relations efforts! Want to express your appreciation? Here's the chain's e-mail address: operations@national-amusements.com
