Hosts “SPOKEN SILENCE†– The Colorado River Association of the
Deaf and Hard of Hearing First Major Event

Lake Havasu, AZ October 01, 2005 Located along the Colorado River, on 110 beautiful waterfront acres, adjacent to the World Famous London Bridge, London Bridge Resort and Convention Center provides the picture perfect visual backdrop as it play hosts and welcomes the deaf community of the COLORADO RIVER ASSOCIATION OF THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING (CRADHH) as it launches its first major event called “SPOKEN SILENCEâ€.
Over a hundred deaf and hard of hearing individuals with their families from the areas of the Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, Kingman, Mohave Valley, Fort Mohave, Golden Valley, Arizona; Needles, California; and Laughlin, Nevada will converged in Lake Havasu City, Arizona to celebrate the Annual Celebration of the London Bridge Day Parade and for the first time will introduce to the city and its residence “deaf storytelling†a performance in American Sign Language by the renowned Deaf poet-storyteller Trix Bruce.
CRADHH’s hope that holding an event in the city who has earned the reputation as the “outdoor recreation MECCA OF THE SOUTHWEST†and “America’s Home for the London Bridge†will help with its campaign to encourage “deaf awareness†in the area and bring the deaf and hearing community together. It also hopes that with the funds raise during this “historic deaf event†in the area it will be able to set up its own. DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING SERVICE AGENCY that will provide advocacy, promote and protect and preserve rights and quality of life of the deaf and hard of hearing individuals in the areas above. Currently, support services and staff for the deaf communities in the rural areas such those of the Mohave County are scare and most are “solely†concentrated in the “big cities†of Tucson and Phoenix.
SPOKEN SILENCE is a two-day event that starts off on October 28, 2005 with a Drawing in Space with ASL CLASSIFIERS, a workshop that will provide participants with an Overview of SIGN Classifiers by focusing on what they mean, when to use them how they are use. It will also provide hands-on experiences and skill building activities needed for appropriate classifier use applied to complex descriptions and images. This very comprehensive workshop will be conducted by Trix Bruce from 9 am – 5 pm and it is open for all ASL students and CERTIFIED ASL INTERPRETERS alike. Around 6:30 pm Trix will perform the TALES OF MAD, MAD, MAD ASL WORLD – is a roller coaster ride through ASL poetry, storytelling and folktales – a sure hit not only for the deaf but also as well as for the hearing community. Events will all be held at the LONDON BRIDGE CONVENTION CENTER. On October 29, 2005 CRADHH with Trix Bruce will join in the LONDON BRIDGE DAYS PARADE.
