Augie Adds Interpreting Program

From: KELOLAND TV, SD - Jan 26, 2006

Augustana College is expanding. The college announced Thursday it will partner with Communication Service for the Deaf to offer a four-year degree for sign language interpreters.

The Bachelor of Arts program will be the first of its kind in Sioux Falls. Augie President Bruce Halverson says it will give students some valuable training. "This fits very nicely with our deaf education program because we offer sign language in the deaf education program and now this is an advancement in that area," he said.

Interpreters from CSD will help teach classes at Augie for the first few years of the program, and the two plan to share costs for its setup.
