St. Mary's City, MD -- The St. Mary's (Md.) baseball team eliminated Gallaudet University from the 2006 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) tournament with an 11-2 second round victory on Thursday afternoon at the Hawks' Nest. With the win, the Seahawks stave off elimination themselves and improve to 15-21 overall on the season, while the Bison fall to 4-29 overall with the loss.

Gallaudet grabbed a quick 2-0 lead after the top half of the first inning when junior first baseman Adam Hilyard singled to score two runs. The Seahawks answered with one run in the bottom of the first inning when senior first baseman Chris D'Antuono (Ellicott City, MD/Howard) hit a solo blast over the left field fence for his ninth homerun of the season, tying him for the schools' single season record in that category.

The Seahawks tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning when sophomore designated hitter Michael Broccolino (Millersville, MD/Old Mill) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring senior third baseman Andrew Sohn (Catonsville, MD/Catonsville) from third.

St. Mary's took control of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning by scoring three runs. The big hit of the inning came off the bat of sophomore left fielder Josh Feldman (Cabin John, MD/Walt Whitman) when he doubled home a run.

The Seahawks added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, one in the seventh, and two more in the eighth for the 11-2 final.

Sohn was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, three runs scored, and one stolen base for St. Mary's. Feldman finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored, and one stolen base while D'Antuono went 2-for-4 with his homerun, two RBI, and two runs scored.

Sophomore centerfielder/pitcher Ryan Lentz led the Gallaudet attack with a perfect day from the plate. Lentz finished the contest 4-for-4 with a run scored, a stolen base, and a sacrifice. He was the only player to record more than one hit on the afternoon for the Bison.

Sophomore Jesse Roche (Millington, MD/Queen Anne County) earned the win on the mound for the Seahawks. Roche (3-4) went seven complete innings and allowed two runs on six hits with five walks and five strikeouts. Senior Ray Simmons (Bowie, MD/Bowie) finished the contest for St. Mary's. Simmons threw two innings and allowed just one hit with two walks and one strikeout.

Sophomore Adrian DeHoyos started and took the loss for Gallaudet. DeHoyos (0-2) went 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on six hits with five walks and one strikeout. Lentz threw the final 3.1 innings in relief and allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits while striking out one batter.

The Seahawks now advance to face York (Pa.) for the second time in the tournament and for the fourth time in the last 11 days when they meet at Salisbury on Saturday afternoon beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Spartans lost their second round contest to Mary Washington, 9-7, on Thursday afternoon. The loser of Saturday's contest will be eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
