Deaf awareness open house scheduled

Lenoir-Rhyne College ’s Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Support Services will host an open house April 21 for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The event coincides with Deaf Awareness Week. The sixth annual open house is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give interested students a first-hand look at the services and programs L-R has to offer. Visitors will tour campus, meet with services personnel, hear about support services, attend classes and eat with students, faculty, staff and administration.
The Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Support Services program offers full support services to the deaf and hard of hearing of any major. Additionally, the college offers a degree in deaf education, a combination unique within the state, according to Shawn Frank, director of the support services program.
