End of School Blowout ! ! !
From: Signs of Development - May 31, 2006
Greetings to all who are involved in the very important work of education as an educator, student, interpreter, or administrator!!!
Â
Signs of Development would like to show appreciation for all of those involved in education by providing you, through the month of June, with a discount on a package we have developed to address the Vocabulary needs of interpreters in education (which will also benefit all interpreters, educators, and students.) This package includes our hottest item the Technical Signs Resource Dictionary, and WWWorkshops on Statistics, Math, Science, Computer Signs, and Medical Terminology. This 10 CD package is valued at almost $700.00 if purchased separately (4.1 total CEUs or 41 hours). We are offering this package at over 40% off! Get prepared for the next school year with this package for $500 with ZERO shipping and handling charges - talk to your school district and tell them it's a must-have package for all school districts and interpreter training programs! Fax a PO or credit card payment to (928) 395-1878 only for this special offer. This offer is NOT being made available via our website. Only people receiving this email qualify for this special promotion. This offer ends June 30th to close out the fiscal year with a bang (for your buck)!!!
Â
Ooops, we made a mistake but you will benefit from it!!! Our last month's release of ASL/English Interpretation Training Materials Series was priced incorrectly. This CD WWWorkshop provides the option to purchase with CEUs or without. The price on our website only lists the price with CEUs (worth 1.3 or 13 hours) - to show our appreciation for those who have purchased already who may not have wanted CEUs, please contact us at wwworkshops@signs-of-development.org for a credit of $89.32 toward another workshop! For those who are interested in over ONE HUNDRED new videos for training, mentoring, and practice (in spoken English, ASL, and interactive), please note our website now has the corrected price AND we are extending the 10% discount through the month of June to allow those who would like to purchase it to still receive our new release discount! Go to http://www.signsofdevelopment.us/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=135  to read more about the Training Materials Series!
Â
Congratulations to CLSLI and a highly successful Iron Sharpens Iron Conference for Legal Sign Language Interpreters. We are so proud to have been a part of the conference and thrilled to have been able to provide the handouts on CD Rom for the conference attendees. Make plans to be there in 2009!
Â
Signs of Development is very excited and honored to have provided Mentoring training to a number of states establishing statewide mentoring programs including Iowa and Wisconsin and will soon be providing Mentoring the Mentor & Mentee Training to Texas and Nebraska! The Nebraska program is schedule for September 22-24th. If you are interested in the Nebraska program, please contact Judy Gouldsmith at jgouldsmith@mccneb.edu. The following is information about the Texas Mentoring Project:
Â
Texas Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID) is giving back! Membership identified a need and the organization provided a resolution. Thus, the inception of the TSID: Fran Herrington-Borre Mentorship Program. As Ms. Herrington-Borre exemplified the true meaning of a mentor, the program was named appropriately in her honor and memory.  Many lovingly refer to her as "Fran, a pioneer in the field of interpreting." Ms. Sharon Hassell in the Jan/Feb 2005 edition of the InterpreTexas said it all … "Fran's contributions to the profession of interpreting and to the deaf community are numerous, sweeping and without measure."  It is also our desire as an organization to see the program emulate the spirit by which she gave back to the community!
Â
Phase I of the program will include an initial training opportunity designed to train and match 40 mentors and 40 mentees. The mentoring process will continue for six months.  Lynne Wiesman & Eileen Forestal, both graduates of the Master Mentor Program, will provide the initial training on the SWCID campus in Big Spring, Texas. Mentors are to arrive on Thursday, July 27 between 1:00 and 9:00 p.m. and Mentees are to arrive on Friday, July 28th between 9:00 am and 12:30 pm. The training and matching of participants will end on Sunday at 11:30 am. Texas BEI and RID CEUs will be requested.  The initial stage of Phase I will include minimal costs of $65.00 for mentors and $50 for mentees for room and meal service. Applicants must provide their own travel with the closest airport being Midland International.  A shuttle will be available for $16.00 one-way or $32.00 for round trip. All applicants must be a member of TSID and be willing to commit to the six-month program. Mentors must be a Texas BEI Level II or above, RID CI or CT or above, or NAD Level III or above.  Mentees must be a certified interpreter, non-certified interpreter, or enrolled in an interpreter training program. Applicants must also bring to the training a 5-minute sample of their interpreting work on videotape or CD. Â
Â
Applications must be postmarked by June 14, 2006. After that date the committee will begin the selection process and send out acceptance notices with further instructions and information.  Applications and information are available on the TSID website at www.tsid.org under Announcements. Questions may be directed to Ms. Susan Tiller at mentorship@tsid.org.
Â
What an exciting time in the life of an organization aiming to give back to the community and its members!   Â
