Carbonated Fresh Fruit to Be Served Under the School Wellness Plan

PORTLAND, OR -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/06/2006 -- The Fizzy Fruitâ„¢ Company announced today that it will begin serving Fizzy Fruitâ„¢ branded fresh sparkling fruit -- Fizzy Fruit -- this fall to 450 students at The California School for the Deaf.

MEDIA ADVISORY: Media is invited to experience Fizzy Fruit along with students at the school year-end picnic on Tuesday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The California School for the Deaf campus located at 39350 Gallaudet Drive, Fremont, CA. Contact Cheryl Boyd at 510-794-3707, or csdoutreachos@tmail.com for further information.

The California School for the Deaf is one of the latest schools in the nation to expand its food service program to include the new carbonated fresh fruit as a means to promote better nutrition and healthier behaviors in schools. A federal mandate requires all school districts in the U.S. to adopt a wellness policy by July 1, 2006 that sets guidelines to support healthy eating practices and physical activity. To date, 38 school districts in 16 states are serving Fizzy Fruit as a healthy snack item in school breakfast and lunch programs.

Fizzy Fruit is fresh fruit that is carbonated to intensify that particular fruit's flavor with fun and effervescence. Similar in concept to sparkling juice, Fizzy Fruit is sparkling fruit. It is created with a special process that adds carbonation to the water that is naturally contained in fruit without altering the nutritional content of the fruit. The result is fresh cut or whole grapes, oranges and apples with a delightful effervescence. Fizzy Fruit contains no artificial sweeteners, no preservatives and no added sugar. The vitamin and fiber content of carbonated fruit is the same as that of regular fruit.

"The California School for the Deaf is committed to providing an environment that promotes and protects children's health and well-being, and their ability to learn by supporting healthy eating and physical activity," said Len Gonzales, Diversity Student Specialist for The California School for the Deaf. "Our school was already in the process of implementing a wellness policy -- before it was required by law -- to serve healthy and nutritious foods to students. Providing seasonal fruits at every meal is included and Fizzy Fruit is a part of the wellness plan."

Fizzy Fruit launched in Oregon elementary school lunch programs in December 2005 as an innovative approach to encourage children to eat their USDA daily recommended allowance of fruit and lead a healthy lifestyle. Today, Fizzy Fruit is offered in 38 school districts in 16 states as a nutritious snack item. Fizzy Fruit will be available for purchase at select retail stores in August 2006.
