Hi Friends!

It's that time again! Our next meeting will be this Saturday June 24th. We meet at the HEAR Center in Pasadena from 10 AM to 12 PM.

Our next meeting is July 22nd and we thought we’d have a roundtable discussion and just catch up with each other and our lives. Here are some ideas, some have come up before, some have been addressed on email but they are all worthy of much more attention, I think.

1) HOH/Deaf communication with doctors/dentists/ medical.

2) Nancy Gray mentioned this at one point on an email. HOH/Deaf and extended hospital stays. How do we make sure we or someone we love get proper care?

3) This one is always good: HOH/Deaf issues at work. How do you get a job if you have hearing loss? How do you keep a job when your hearing worsens?

4) Dating or making friends when you are HOH/Deaf. How do you carry on a social life when you have hearing loss?

5) CI experiences. We could have people who have a CI talk about their experiences. We could have folks who just qualified for a CI talk about how they are feeling about the choice to get one, etc.

Let’s take a vote at the meeting for the topic of discussion. The others can be tabled for later discussions.

We will also be talking about upcoming events and ongoing nominations for elections in September. And of course there will be food, there’s ALWAYS food! LOL

Hope to see you there!

Hearing Loss Association of Los Angeles HLA-LA (formerly SHHH-LA), was founded in September 2004 by a group of adults with hearing loss. The purpose of this group is to bring support and understanding to all people who live with a hearing loss (whether it is mild to severe) and their family and friends. HLA-LA members communicate by lip reading, writing signs, sign language or the use of a real time captionist. Membership is free.
