Thursday September 21, 2:56 pm ET
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced the appointment of Sharon Behun, Dauphin County, as the Department of Labor and Industry's director of the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH).
"People who are deaf or hard of hearing contribute much to our workplaces and communities," Governor Rendell said. "They deserve to have a strong advocate like Sharon supporting them. Under her guidance, the office will continue to create and foster an environment that promotes independent living so that every citizen can contribute to Pennsylvania's success."
As director of the Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Behun will be responsible for providing advocacy, information, referrals and coordinating services for adults and children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Behun holds a bachelor of science degree in sign language interpreting from Bloomsburg University and certificates of transliterating and interpreting from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. For the past 14 years, she has worked as an interpreter, and been an advocate for Pennsylvania's deaf and hard of hearing community, creating a network of statewide resources that has increased access to services.
