The bridge leading to Mackworth Island in Falmouth was dotted with color Thursday. Pinwheels made by students at the Baxter School for the Deaf, the Friends School and the Real School in Portland decorated the bridge.

The art installation project is called Pinwheels for Peace. It was started by two teachers in Florida as a way for children to make a public statement about peace and tolerance. It's a subject these kids have thought a lot about.

"I don't even know why people start wars. Why do people have to be so disliking? Why couldn't they just use their words?" asked one student.

The kids from all 3 schools made their pinwheels together Wednesday at the Baxter School.

The Pinwheels for Peace project estimates that 500,000 pinwheels were "planted" around the world last year.
