Dear Friend of the National Theatre of the Deaf,

As a subscriber to our email distribution list, we know that you like to stay abreast of what is happening at The National Theatre of the Deaf (NTD) – the nation’s oldest, continuously performing professional theatre company. As usual, we are very busy.

The Fall 2006 / Spring 2007 Tour of our children’s wing, the Little Theatre of the Deaf (LTD), commenced on Monday, October 16th . This year’s production is Next Stop: Africa, the third in our Fingers Around the World! series. In this installment, Alice – of Alice in Wonderland fame – and her friends find wonder and adventure during their journey through the continent of Africa. On Wednesday, October 18^th , NTD performed at the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony in honor of Helen Keller, one of this year’s inductees. Finally, preparations are underway to celebrate NTD’s 40^th anniversary, a milestone we will reach in 2007.

As I reflect on the last nearly 40 years, so many NTD achievements come to mind:

* Winning a Tony Award for Theatrical Excellence
* Being the first theatre company from the West to perform in the
People’s Republic of China
* Being the first U.S. theatre company to tour South Africa
following the easing of U.N. sanctions
* Introducing millions of children through the years to Deaf culture
and American Sign Language through LTD’s live and television
performances

As I ponder these and many other NTD accomplishments, one thing jumps out at me: None of them would have occurred without the generous financial support of our friends. That is why I would like to announce our recent affiliation with JustGive.org.
