Hamilton Relay Recognizes Leader in Georgia

In honor of Deaf Awareness Week, Hamilton Relay is pleased to recognize Mary A. Land as the 2006 Deaf Leader for the State of Georgia.

Mary is a native of Georgia, and attended the Georgia School for the Deaf. She is a strong advocate of the Georgia Association of the Deaf, and contributes her time to the Georgia Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities. She has been a member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Council for the Hearing-Impaired since the inception of the organization. Mary also served on the Board of the Georgia Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf for many years. As well, she held the office of vice-president of the Deaf Senior Citizens of Georgia.

Mary has retired after 32 years with the Georgia Department of Administration. In her free time, she enjoys teaching American Sign Language to interpreters, as well as to those who are new to sign language.
