Burglars Break into The Dayton Association of the Deaf
From: WDTN - Dayton,OH,USA - Dec 5, 2006
The Dayton Association of the Deaf was robbed on Monday. Police say the crime took place sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 p.m. They say the crooks used chains and a tow belt to break the door down.
Alice Rogers says she discovered something was wrong when she came by to pick up the mail. She said, "I drove around and I saw there was some damage to the front door and the mailbox, and I thought, what? Something had to have happened."
Lieutenant John Bardun said, "We don't know how many persons, but they forced open the front door and broke into a number of offices and did a sizable amount of damage."
Once inside, police say the thieves kicked down interior doors and ransacked offices, rummaging through desks and pulling apart drawers.
A cabinet holding a fax machine was also stolen, as well as a stereo system and speakers. But most importantly, a flat screen tv was stolen. Using special equipment, the tv allowed members to call their friends and sign with each other via a webcam.
Unfortunately, this isn't the first time the association has been burglarized. At this time last year, someone broke in and stole 500 dollars. Officers aren't sure if the crimes are related.
So far, police have no suspects and there's no surveillance video. If you have any information, call Dayton Police or call Crimestoppers at 222-STOP.
