Grand Rapids airport to send announcements to hearing aids

From: WLNS - Lansing,MI,USA - Dec 26, 2006

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Air travelers who use hearing aids will find it easier to learn what's going on at Ford airport.

Improvements to the public address system beginning next year will add technology that lets flight announcements be transmitted directly into hearing aids with a special receiver.

The technology is known as a hearing loop. It lets small receivers pick up sounds directly from a microphone, television or telephone. The receivers are available in more than half of hearing aids and Cochlear implants.

The Grand Rapids airport is spending 115-thousand dollars to upgrade it public-address software.
