Hearing-impaired put up a great show

Chandigarh, December 10: The Deaf Way orgainsed Hellen Keller Student’s Award ceremony at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, today. Deaf students from different schools who had achieved something in the field of academics and co-curricular activities were honoured on the occasion.

Madhulika Puri from the Department of Social Welfare, New Delhi, and Diana Carver inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp and gave away prizes to the students.

The president of The Deaf Way Arun C Rao while addressing the gathering said that the aim is to propagate the idea that the deaf might need help, but they are not a burden. “The teachers, parents, students as well as other organisations should get together to help them become self-dependent,’’ he said.

The Deaf Friendship clubs of Patiala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Chandigarh were a part of the ceremony. A number of items were presented by the students of these clubs.

Secretary of The Deaf Way Anuj Jain gave a presentation on the various activities undertaken by them for the deaf.
