Deaf people need special alarms

FIREFIGHTERS are using Deaf Awareness Week (May 7-13) to remind people with hearing problems to make sure they have the right type of smoke detector in their homes.

People with hearing problems may have difficulty hearing traditional smoke detectors which emit a warning sound when activated.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service can provide free alarms with vibrating pads and flashing strobe lights.
