A deaf East Village woman who suffers from cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair was badly injured when her boyfriend beat her senseless with household items, stabbed her in the neck with a piece of glass and buried her under furniture inside her apartment, authorities said Friday.
When police responded Thursday night to the East 13th Street building, which houses the deaf and hearing impaired, they found the woman, Kathryn Campbell, 42, under a pile of furniture.
The apartment had been ransacked, police said, and the woman had serious head trauma and cuts on her face.
The boyfriend, Rodolfo Suarez, 34, who is hearing impaired, was arrested at his mother's home on West 134th Street in Manhattan and charged with attempted murder and assault. Authorities said Suarez slammed a mirror over Campbell's head, then stabbed her in the neck with a shard of broken glass.
He also allegedly choked her with an electrical cord and threw a toaster oven at her before burying her under a dresser and television set, among other items.
Campbell was listed in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital and is expected to survive.
