Deaf Awareness Day held at North Carolina Aquarium

From: WWAY NewsChannel 3 - Sept 30, 2012

FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) -– The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher offered a special day for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Interpreters stationed throughout the aquarium answered any questions the children had. They also relayed questions to divers during feeding times.

"We have some local organizations that are providing interpreters at all of our programs for people who are deaf or hard of hearing," the aquarium's Megan Ennes said "That way they can have better interactions with all of our programs and that they are able to have the same experience that all of our other visitors do as well."

Year round the aquarium offers special listening devices for anyone who is hard of hearing.
